Privacy Policy for Auritype

Auritype · Last Updated: July 21, 2026

Privacy first: Auritype does not require an account and does not collect analytics or usage telemetry of any kind. Your audio files and transcripts are processed entirely on your device and are never sent to us or anyone else. The app makes network requests for exactly two things — an optional transcription-model download you choose to trigger, and a small signed check on launch to keep your free-tier allowance current — and neither ever includes your audio, transcripts, or file names.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 We do not collect usage analytics

Unlike some apps, Auritype has no analytics or telemetry SDK. We do not know which features you use, how often you open the app, or anything else about your activity in it.

1.2 Your Recordings and Transcripts

Audio and video you import, and the transcripts Auritype generates from them, are stored only on your device (and, if you use iCloud backup for your device as a whole, wherever your device backups already go — Auritype does not add any separate sync of its own). We have no access to them, and no server ever receives them.

1.3 Purchases

The one-time "Unlimited" purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment; we never receive your payment card or billing details. We only learn, via Apple's on-device StoreKit records, whether your device is entitled to the purchase.

1.4 Usage Counters (stored in your Keychain, and a local backup)

To keep the free-tier allowance consistent (so it isn't reset by reinstalling), the app stores a running total of how many seconds of media you've processed. This total — a number, nothing else — is stored in your Keychain and, as a backup, in a second location on your device outside the app's own storage. No device identifier, no personal information, and no file names or contents are included. If you use iCloud Keychain, this total syncs across your devices via your Apple ID — end-to-end encrypted by Apple, never sent to us or visible to Apple.

1.5 Signed Free-Quota Check

On each launch, the app fetches a small signed configuration file from our website to confirm the current free-tier limit, so that limit can be adjusted without requiring an app update. This is a standard web request to a static file — like loading any web page, it is visible to our hosting/CDN infrastructure in the ordinary way any web request is (e.g. your IP address, as with any server you connect to), but it contains no information about you, your recordings, or your use of the app, and the file it fetches contains nothing except a number and our cryptographic signature over it. If this request fails for any reason (offline, etc.), the app simply uses its built-in default limit.

1.6 Optional Model Downloads

Auritype ships with a transcription model built in, so it works immediately after install. If you choose a different model from Settings, the app downloads it directly from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) — a request you initiate, to a third party we don't control. No information about your recordings is sent as part of that request.

2. What We Do NOT Collect

3. Data Sharing

We do not share your information with third parties, because we do not collect any in the first place beyond the minimal usage counter described above. The only party involved in using the app besides you and us is Apple, as the App Store operator and payment processor, under Apple's own privacy policy — and, if you choose to download an alternate transcription model, Hugging Face, as the host of that download.

4. Data Retention

Your recordings, transcripts, and usage counter live on your device for as long as you keep them there; deleting the app removes them (except for a Keychain entry, which iCloud Keychain may retain across reinstalls by design — this is what keeps your free-tier allowance from resetting). We do not retain any copy of your data, because we never receive one.

5. Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them — nor, in the ordinary course of using the app, do we collect personal information from anyone.

6. Your Choices

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

8. Contact Us
